Do I need to wear swim plugs?

Yes, if you participate in water sports and are prone to ear issues. They can make all the difference between an enjoyable hobby and one that leads to pain, hearing problems and worse.

What are the best swimming earplugs for me?

It depends on your needs and budget. Many casual swimmers who don’t have ear issues can make do with off-the-shelf options. However, if you’re prone to ear infections like swimmer’s ear, have grommets (also known as ear tubes) or a ruptured eardrum, you’ll need custom moulded plugs that create a perfect watertight seal and keep your ear canal dry.

Can children use swimming earplugs?

Yes – custom plugs can be made to fit any size ear. It’s especially important for children who’ve had grommets fitted to use swim plugs.

Can earplugs prevent swimmer's ear?

Absolutely. Swimmer’s ear happens when water is trapped in your ear canal, so the best solution is to avoid water entering your ear in the first place.

Can earplugs help with surfer's ear?

They can. Surfer’s ear, also known as extoses, are bony growths in the outer ear triggered by repeated exposure to cold water. By protecting your ear canal, earplugs can prevent them from forming, or getting worse.

What is the duration of the fitting period for my custom earplugs or in-ear monitors?

While your custom product has the potential to last indefinitely, we recommend obtaining new ear impressions every 4 years. This is advised because the shape of your ear canals can undergo changes over time.

Who uses custom Swim Plugs & Pro-Aquaz

Swimmers, open water swimmers, surfers, surf instructors, kitesurfers, wind surfers, paddle boarders, wakeboarders, waterskiers, surf kayakers, white water kayakers, surf instructors, coasteering, watersport, SUP and more. They are not suitable for SCUBA diving or FREE diving.

Will the plugs affect my balance?

No, some individuals perceive that earplugs impact balance, but it's merely a shift in spatial awareness. Using any type of earplug does not have any physical effects on your balance. Many surfers and open water swimmers use them without issue.

Are your Swim Plugs & Pro-Aquaz complete watertight

The objective is to achieve a snug, waterproof fit, our Swim Plugs and Pro-Aquaz will generally accomplish this. However, we cannot provide a guarantee due to the anatomical variability in people's ears. Nonetheless, in all scenarios, the flushing effect of water and wind chill will be minimised, and it is this reduction that will aid in preventing Surfers Ear, Swimmer’s ear and ear infections

Yes, our custom swim and surf plugs are tailor-made and suitable for use in these conditions. However, it is essential to follow the guidance of your specialist, who can determine whether our custom plugs are appropriate for your specific medical condition.

How long do the Swim Plugs or Pro-Aquaz last?

We expect the typical lifetime to be 3 to 4 years although some natural anatomical changes to the ears may require an update sooner.

What if my custom Swim Plugs or Pro-Aquaz don't fit correctly?

Please email our reception@earlab.com.au. We can guarantee proper fitting and assess whether any slight adjustments are necessary to ensure they fit accurately. Providing a close-up photo of the plugs in the ear may aid us in diagnosing any fitting issues.

FAQs

Why does the Evoke2 have a smaller frequency range compared to all other IEMs?

That's because the Evoke's use only a single driver for the range of frequencies. All the other ACS IEMs have at least a bass driver, and a separate treble/ tweeter driver. So therefore the range of the Evokes is not as wide, so they need to compact all the parts in a tiny driver.

Are the cables for ACS IEMs interchangeable with IEMs sourced from other manufacturers?

The cables ACS uses for IEMs have the 0.78mm variety of 2-pin. Therefore, the cables are interchangeable with other IEM cables that use this spec. However, there is another version of 2-pin connector on the market which has a 0.75mm pin, the ACS cables would not work with these ones. However, prior to ordering the cable for IEMs from ACS, we need to clarify about the position of the socket on the other IEMs. On the ACS IEMs, the socket is slightly recessed into the mould and shaped like the rectangular shape on the end of the cable connector. So if the other IEM’s cable had a cylinder shaped barrel on the 2-pin connector it wouldn’t properly fit into the recession. If the socket on the IEMs is not recessed, then it shouldn’t be a problem. If this explanation is unclear, it might be a good idea to ask client to refer to the banner image of the IEMs on our website or even to get him to take a picture of his IEMs and email them to us.

Can you tell me the noise reduction rating (NRR) for the SleepSound?

The SleepSound attenuated about 25-27dB. It is a solid earplug and it attenuates about as much as a very good fitting foam plug.

Unlike off-the-shelf foam options, these earplugs are made for comfort – they’re soft, lightweight and fit your ear canal perfectly. That means you can comfortably lie on your side, without irritation. They also won’t fall out of your ear while you sleep – a major complaint for those who use foam earplugs.
